Mountain's Rest: An Individual Prescription and Practice for Lasting Change
Mountain's Rest is an art... and it is the PERFECT way to unwind and release accumulated tensions. Why wait?
Participate in a series of classes and grow more vital while simultaneously enhancing your ability to focus today!
According to Yogi Amrit Desai, formerly of the Kripalu Institute, the practice takes one beyond the barriers of the five senses. In this realm, which Yogi Desai calls the “Zero Stress Zone,” you have the power to actualize your intentions, affirmations and prayers. Mountain's Rest "initiates shifts from the deepest core of your being and provides you with powerful tools to eliminate stress and banish self-destructive unconscious fears, beliefs and habits. Your life begins to synchronize with your intentions because you no longer fight yourself."
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Mountain's Rest?
Ideal for restoring your vital energy in the most profound way possible, Mountain's Rest is my personal spin on traditional Yoga Nidra. It is a deeply restful guided practice designed to help you overcome obstacles to achieving your heart's desire. Through rest, you are better equipped to absorb and be nourished by the beauty of the journey to the top of your mountain; to the other side of a particular challenge you face.
How would I benefit from the practice?
Because 15-20 minutes of this practice can provide as much rest as an hour of sleep, everyone benefits! A short practice of YN is more effective at nourishing the nervous system, resetting hormonal balance, and generating cellular recovery than many hours of regular sleep... Continuous practice can guide potent transformation in the body, mind and spirit.
With our cultural acceptance of hectic schedules, human effort and energies have become dispersed. Social systems and family dynamics have changed, no longer nourishing us as they might have in more ancient times when down time that included rest and recovery were woven evenly into each day.
Many "bodies" do not benefit from the long-term, highly competitive pace of modern life, accumulating stress and developing disease over time. Some practitioners believe that the rise of dis-ease (and stress-related disorders in particular), has resulted largely from our loss of regenerative time: rest and relaxation.
That’s where Mountain's Rest comes in…
Imagine gifting yourself with time to rest, comfortably supported, on your yoga mat through a gentle, guided, restorative process. While it might seem that nothing significant is going on as you relax, numerous subtle changes take place in the body's systems, including circulation, nervous and endocrine systems, as a result of this practice. As your sympathetic nervous system relaxes, the “fight or flight” response stops firing, which allows hormones to find homeostasis within the body. Organs and muscles respond by gradually releasing chronically held tension, thus opening back up to more optimal physiological function.
Sharon has spent years fine tuning her offering of this potent practice, and makes it available to groups and individuals in single sessions, five-week series, and as workshops on request.
Current research has shown that regular practice of YN has effectively reduced, and in many cases, eliminated the symptoms of:
● PTSD
● Depression
● Anxiety
● Menstrual discomfort
● Diabetic symptoms
● Elevated Cortisol Levels and Stress
● Insomnia/sleep issues
● Chronic pain
● Chemical dependency
● Hypertension
● Multiple Sclerosis
● Other physical, psychological and emotional issues
By taking time to rest deeply, you facilitate health, ease and ability in your body, mind, heart and soul.
YN has numerous benefits and is a great remedy for a variety of physical and mental health issues.
Current research backs up what the yogis knew about thousands of years ago - that we heal through rest.
"Yoga Nidra relaxes the mind by relaxing the body and relaxes the body by relaxing the brain." In this way, neuroscientists tell us the practice can support the generation of new brain cells. (1)
"Prolonged and repeated exposure to stress can actually shrink the hippocampus, effecting our ability to self-soothe and settle the mind and body, making it more difficult to experience a state of relaxation and calm." (2)

Testimonials:
"Huge Thanks and Cheers to Sharon Harvey Alexander for my first experience of Yoga Nidra last night. You are a beautiful guide to relaxation and rejuvenation! If you need a moment to breathe deeply and let go, I recommend her classes indeed!" ~Susanne M.
"Just wanted you to know that I really loved the class today. I left feeling so happy and balanced and kept smiling all day. I really felt like I had some sort of epiphany during the practice because I was really able to appreciate the quiet and go inside myself and gather some meaningful insights. As you probably know, this is difficult for me to do - being a lover of noise and distraction. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher." xo JZ
